Spiritual Fathers and Identity

I want to dedicate this blog to my Apostolic Father, Apostle Tim Early.. I honor you Dad.

It has been about 5 days since I posted my last blog. I have been super busy with finals but even more busy in the presence of God. We are all on a journey, and the most dangerous snare on any journey is to ever think that you have arrived when, in actuality, you have just begun. I try to always remind myself of this, it keeps me humble, prayerful and in the presence of God. This blog is on the subject of “Spiritual Fathers”, but more importantly on “Identity”. I wanted to write this blog because this is something that as a young man, I have dealt with, continue to deal with, and think that it is something that must be addressed to be successful in ministry. I want to define ministry success very quickly. Being successful is not having the largest crowd, being the best preacher or even how many people you can prophesy to or miracles that are in your ministry. Surely these things are biblical, should be present and do come along with successful ministry, but these things alone do NOT spell success. Success in ministry is doing what God has assigned you to do. Success is NOT doing what is popular, or doing what is comfortable. Success is NOT doing what you see another church or another pastor do.. success is doing what God has CALLED you to do. Why is this important? Because in order to do what God has CALLED you to do… you must know who you are.

Matt. 10:1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.

Matt. 10:2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

Matt. 10:3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus..

The scripture says that Jesus CALLED the “disciples” and gave them power.. Now what was this power? We understand what the power was for: cast out demons, heal ALL manner of sickness and ALL manner of disease.. but what was this power? I believe that this power was the POWER of IDENTITY. It was the DNA of their ministry father, Jesus the Christ.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

When Jesus called them in Matthew 10, they had to receive and respond to the invitation. As soon as they heeded the CALL, that POWER was transferred. But it was not just a transference of any kind of power.. they believed or they trusted in his NAME. In every NAME is the DNA or Identity of a Father. The word NAME actually connotes NATURE. NAME reveals NATURE. Remember Jacob, which means trickster.. one of our first recollections of him in scripture is him tricking Esau out of the birthright. Joseph’s name means “the Lord shall ADD” and look at how his life was full of INCREASE and ABUNDANCE. Gideon’s name means “Destroyer” and look at how he and just 300 dismantled the Midianites. A NAME carries DESTINY. A name reveals IDENTITY. This gives us greater understand of Adam’s assignment and authority.

Gen. 2:19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

Adam as the Father, the custodian of all that God had made (Psalm 8), the Federal Head of Humanity was given the responsibility of NAMING the animals. This was a test of his discernment of God things. God wanted to make sure that Adam could SEE and DISCERN correctly. This is a KEY in the Ministry of Fathers. Adam’s job was to asses the animal and then, according to make up, ability and instinct, give them a NAME. Now when Adam gave these animals their name, it wasn’t just a title that identified them from other animals.. it was actually their nature. Adam imparted the animals NATURE. He told the Giraffe how tall to grow, the Cheetah how fast to run, the Eagle what altitude in which to glide.. Adam was a Father. When Jesus calls the “disciples” in Matthew 10, He gives them a NEW NAME. In verse 1 of Matthew 10, they are called “disciples”.. in verse 2 they are called “Apostles”, and then He declares their names. God has a way of naming us like no one else can. He has also given the responsibility of naming to the Ministry of Fathers.

1Cor. 4:15 For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.

In the first letter Paul wrote to the church at Corinth, he deals very basically with what I call the Order of Fathers. He begins in the first chapter speaking of divisions that have formed around the subject.

1Cor. 1:12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.

There had been factions established in the church over who their father in the ministry was. The word “of” denotes “origin”, which means the “original” or “beginning” place. While many of the apostles had their origin with Christ, other were ministry sons of Paul, Peter, and others like Apollos. While this is juvenile, the ministry of Fathers is extremely important. The Ministry of Fathers is especially important today. For we are living in a time of superstar Christians, ball-hogs Bishops, and bastards. Fathers, by impartation, release y and bring a sense of identity to sons. Some reject the ministry of Fathers.. but this is very Biblical. This is not an exhaustive study on the subject of Fathers, but I will say that everything God does in the Earth, He does according to the pattern of Father and Son. Paul said “you have many TEACHERS, but not many FATHERS”. Fathers bring maturity. They develop character as well as gifts. Fathers address SIN, they counsel in dimensions. Fathers TRAIN. Fathers BLESS. Fathers CORRECT. Fathers reveal PURPOSE and DESTINY. Fathers impart IDENTITY. The Corinthian church was totally OUT OF ORDER because they were operating (watch this) according to what one Father said while in the House of another Father. This is causing many problems in the Body of Christ. Many people are in ministries, but there is NO FATHER, and because of this, IDENTITY is being imparted by television personalities and dvd mentorship.

I want to share my personal struggle in this area with you. I have always knew who God desired me to be, and how my ministry was to look. But I battled with fear. It was hard for me… I felt rejected, a bastard, but God was shaping me into something that I had never seen. And He is still shaping me into that. It is very hard to become something that you can not see. And for me there was no adequate model by with to measure my growth and development. I am blessed to have one of the greatest Fathers in the Faith as my Dad in the ministry. Apostle Tim Early is a true Father. He is NOT there to make me like him, but to facilitate, as a Father, my growth into what God has called me to. Many of you reading this blog are being called into a place that you have never been. You are being shaped into something you have never seen. Find a Father. Do NOT settle for being a MEMBER of a Church and NOT a Son to a Father. There is nothing like being in the House of your Father. To all those that are in search for a Father, pray and continue to be humble and remain teachable. It took me a while to find someone that was NOT abusive, jealous and religious. I have even had people claim me as a son.. this is witchcraft.

Fathers in ministry are more important than ever. Preachers are falling left and right. Immorality and Perversion are stronger in the pulpit than ever before. We submit to those that see destiny in us and are willing to invest in our future. These relationships bring identity and direction. My prayer for you is that you find that Father, and walk in your identity.

    Bryan, this is so, so good and possibly one of the most important messages for the church in our day. I love your writing – and know that it comes from a place of experience and authenticity. Keep going, brother.

    Man of God,I agree with u on your blog great present day truth.
    How does one become identified as a father/son,like does your Pastor
    automatically becum your father because that’s where u r eating from
    or is it a point of him either selecting u or establishing u as a son?
    What happens if u r from another church&u recognized the Pastor of dat
    church as your father,then relocate to another church permanantly
    situated there,does he remain your father?

      Well first I will say that if you are in your Fathers House and you move, he can still be your father, but where you are getting fed now becomes your step-father. He is taking care of you in your father stead. You become identified as a son by commitment and loyalty. It is a relationship that organically grows. A no your Pastor does not automatically become your father, especially if he does nothing to develop you as a son. These are great questions, send me your info so we can talk more on the subject, everything can not be answered here: bryan@embassychurchatl.com

    Praise the Lord! I’m not sure if you will read this, nonetheless I Bless the God of our Father & Savior Jesus Christ, You do not know me according to the flesh, but perhaps you can pick me up in the spirit;
    The vessel in which your suffering has caused you to walk in your divine assignment, has brought a refreshing to me.
    May our father increase himself in you man of God!
    I run father programs in western NY & God has given me a vision of establishing groups / ministries in counties surrounding Rochester, NY called The Fatherhood Connection.
    You have encouraged me to reach back out to Apostle Tim Early, perhaps he has not forgotten me, I pray that you keep me in prayer & that I too may experience the impartation of a true Father!
