A Worshipper’s Cry

Regardless of title, position, anointing or responsibility in the Kingdom of God.. we are first and foremost, worshippers. Without the revelation of our call to worship, ministry becomes routine, praise becomes a chore and service is shrouded in the realms of hypocrisy and obligation. Without our revelation of our call as a worship, our bones become brittle, our assignments become rigid, religion sets in, and our lives become relics void of relationship and significance. The revelation of the worshipper is the principle revelation that brings us nigh to our King with humility and  sincerity. It has always alarmed me when I see pastors of “mega” ministries, with great titles and works, but don’t have the passion to worship or come into the presence of our God.

Today on my way home, and even as I write this blog, tears fill my eyes as I think about the greatness of our King. How wonderful is our God. How loving is Jesus. The Worshipper’s cry must be for more of Jesus. The Worshipper’s cry must be for clean hands and pure hearts.

Psa. 24:3-4 Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

This question would be better phrased as “who is willing to wash their hands..” In a day of synthetic worship, entertainment driven praise, in a world of cliches and catch phrases.. who is willing to wash their hands. The washing of our hands must be the first cry of the worshipper. Worshippers are given the task to carry holy and pure things, we have the capacity to carry secrets and codes.. this is why our hands must be clean. Clean signifies being free from filth or contamination. One of the major battles against a worshipper is the battle for their heart and attention. This is why true worshippers usually have a problem focusing. True worshippers always fight in the realm of loyalty and sincerity, because the enemy knows if he can turn your heart, the power that drives your life will cease. We must pray for clean hands. Clean hands also represent a sensitivity to touch.

Heb. 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

Worshippers are usually driven into the presence of God by past hurts and rejection. This causes many to be very bitter and stubborn, and hinders their ability to truly become vulnerable in times of intense worship. They hide tears and force their hands to their side because life has beaten them down to a point of hopelessness and despair. They can not smile or laugh.. even good news is bad news.  A Worshipper is always being challenged to become hard and calloused, losing their ability to FEEL. This is why we must have clean hands. The more dirt you have on your hands, the less you feel. Lord give us CLEAN HANDS. What God has called you to carry is too precious to be tainted by your dysfunctions and hang ups, allow God to wash your hands with the water of the word (Eph. 5:26).

Not only must we have clean hands, but pure hearts. PURE HEARTS represent our motives and our focus. This is where the entertainment worshipper and the idolater must be dealt with. In many of our churches praise and worship is nothing more than a concert. The people have paid a small fee (offering or tithes) to see the latest artist to hit the gospel stage. The presentation is void of purpose, presence or power. Do you realize as a worshipper that every time you come into the presence of the Lord, you are passing through a place called PASSION? This passion is where Jesus walked, bled and died… When Jesus carried the cross to that great hill called Golgotha, He was paving the way of the Worshipper. The Way of the Worshipper is paved with BLOOD. It is a path of sacrifice and loss, because in order to come into the presence of a great and mighty God, you must leave everything at the door. You must leave your inhibitions, you must leave your sin, filth, your assumptions and presumptions. When you come into the presence of the King, all you can bring is BLOOD!!! Ask the High Priest.. on the day of Atonement (Yom Kippur), the only thing that gave him access was the blood. Do you know the power of the blood? The blood must be preached, it must be taught.. there is more power in the blood than you can imagine. So when you come IN, you leave everything.. but when you LEAVE, you gain everything.. joy, peace, deliverance, grace, power, time.. Lord give us pure hearts. This is why David prayed the prayer..

Psa. 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

Ask God to search you.. see if there be any wicked thing in you.

Our life as a Worshipper must be a BLOOD filled life, but it must also be a TEAR filled life as well. I remember when I began to travel and minister. I got so caught up with the image of the “man of God” that I forgot who I was working for. I am a representative of the Creator of both Heaven and Earth. I got to a point where I couldn’t even FEEL the presence of God. It wasn’t because of sin, it was because of busyness. It was because I was so preoccupied with ministry, that I forgot what my true ministry was. We are all priest and kings after the Order of Melchizedek (another teaching).. WE MUST WORSHIP.

Psa. 24:3-4 Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

Pride is one of the greatest killers to an atmosphere and a lifestyle of worship. Pride handcuffs your praise and incarcerates your worship. Pride will always lead to idolatry. Idolatry must be nowhere to be found in the heart of a worshipper. Our focus must be on the King, Jesus the Christ. Idolatry isn’t as obvious as you might think. Idolatry is simply, “diverted devotion”. It can be worshipping the RIGHT ONE for the WRONG REASON. Many worship God because of what they can get from him. You know those.. the greater the situation they are in, the greater the “praise”.. many preachers will even encourage congregants to worship God according to what they want God to do for them.. this is witchcraft. You never worship God for what He can do.. but always for who He is. And guess what? God never changes!!! Our worship must always be consistent. Worship is not contingent on your attitude or mood, it is not determined by your bank account or your emotions.. it is, because He is.

Worshippers must have Height, Depth, Width, and Length.. these are the dimensions of the Worshipper. The Height of the worshipper is how far they have ascended into the hill of the Lord (Psa. 23:4). A Worshipper’s height is determined by the cleanliness of their hands, and the purity of their heart. Your level of purity will determine your Height. The Depth represents your knowledge of the one you are worshipping. The depth of your well of worship is dug by understanding the revelation of Jesus Christ. How can you dig deeper? This comes by studying the word, studying the names of God (Jehovah Jireh, Nissi, Shammah, etc), the Covenants of God, and the Dwelling Places of God. As your knowledge of God grows, your depth in worship will grow. Worshippers must also be WIDE. Width represents DISPLACEMENT POWER. Worshippers must be FAT (not physcally), they must be FULL. Are you wide? This is the only time it is good for someone to call you “wideload”. The more we are filled with the presence of God.. the bigger we are. WIDTH deals with capacity. How much God can you hold? The WIDTH determines what God can give you. The wider you are the more God can entrust you with.

John 6:54-55 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

You are what you eat. The more you eat, the fatter you get. We need fat worshippers in the House of God. People that are hungry for the presence and power of God. Matt. 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. That word “filled” in the greek means to supply food in abundance. God wants you overweight on His presence, and obese on His love. ARE YOU FAT???

The last aspect of a worshiper is their length. Length is very important to the worshipper, because this connotes the WALK of a worshipper. Many people are only able to worship God when the path is smooth, but as soon as some rocks are located, the journey is cut short. Worshippers must have the endurance to walk with God. The scriptures declare that Enoch walked with God and was NOT.. (Gen 5:24). The longer you walk with God, less of your will is evident and more of God’s will is manifest. The longer you walk with God, the less you look like you, and the more you look like God, until one day.. you are just, NOT. People no longer see you, they see God. This is the worshipper’s journey.

My prayer for you is that you develop the cry of the Worshipper. Lord give me Height, Depth, Width, and Length. Lord search my inward parts, try my heart.. see if there is anything in me that is not like you. Lord, let me ascend into your secret place. Lord reveal to me who you are, reveal to me who I am, reveal to me your heart.. This is the Worshipper’s cry.
